Firestone Country Club is located in Akron, Ohio and is regarded as one of the premier country clubs in the state, as well as in the nation. The three private courses are designed by world-famous designers – Robert Trent Jones Jr., Bert Way and Tom Fazio.
Professional golf has deep roots at Firestone Country Club. The club hosted the Rubber City Open from 1954 until 1959, an event won by the likes of Arnold Palmer and Tommy Bolt. The PGA Championship was also held at the club on three separate occasions.
From 1999 through 2018, with the exception of 2002, Firestone Country Club was host to one of four World Golf Championships events. During these years, the world’s greatest golfers converged on Akron for the event, bringing massive crowds.

North Course

Robert Trent Jones Jr. certainly used his surroundings when designing the North Course. It is nearly impossible to avoid the water hazards, which seem to surrounded you as you play. With its many island greens and shots over water, the North Course will provide a unique challenge for anyone not accustomed to playing around this type of hazard. Like the rest of the courses at Firestone, missing shots left and right will make getting up and down a very difficult task.
South Course

When people think of Firestone Country Club, they think of the South Course. The long par-4’s and the monstrous par-5 16th make this course a daunting challenge for any golfer. Although the South Course does not have as much water as others, the narrow fairways, glassy greens and long par-4’s are what make this course so difficult.
The South Course is also the course, which has hosted numerous PGA Tour events. The likes of Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, Vijay Singh and more have experienced triumph as well as defeat at the hands of this difficult course.
West Course

The West Course is another challenging course, which sees quite a bit of competitive play, as it is home to the Ohio Senior Open.
As the shortest and most open of the three 18-hole courses, the West Course is more forgiving than the North and South Courses. Do not let that fool you though, as the fairways are still narrow and the greens play quick on most days.

For those who are not members of Firestone Country Club, the Raymond C. Firestone Public 9 is the next best thing.
This public 9-hole course offers similar conditions to the private sides. The sloped a varying terrain makes any approach shot difficult. The glassy greens will also make you second guess your short game and take more caution when putting the golf ball.
