The Yale Golf Course sits on a 700-acre wood swamp. It was designed by renowned golf course architect Charles Blair Macdonald, the champion golfer and co-founder of the USGA, in collaboration with Seth Raynor. It opened for play in 1926.
For nearly a century, the Yale Golf Course has been recognized as one of the finest examples from the Macdonald & Raynor portfolios. Large greens with deep bunkers and wide, rolling fairways are the core of the course’s character.
Last year, the school announced it commissioned Gil Hanse to prepare a master plan designed to restore the course back to its original full scale and drama. It is expected that this work will include an overhaul of the fairways, tees, cavernous bunkers – many of which feature wooden steps to safely make it to the bottom and back up – expanded putting surfaces and improved drainage and irrigation.
The course is located about 3.6 miles from campus.
